Coaching & Mentoring

Rest easy; I've got you.

Whether you're wishing for

  1. Someone at your side who knows your back story
  2. An anchor, a bit of stability when your whole life is in transition
  3. safe place where you don't have to pretend you "have it all together"
  4. All of the above ...

... I'm here.

Like some of my clients have said,

"Our chat was like a balm."
- E. (1:1 coaching client)

"I realized it is possible to explore some of the hard things."
- D. (1:1 coaching client)

"It really boosted my self confidence."
- L. (Adapt & Succeed Abroad client)

How does this work?

I provide some basic information here on this page. You send me just a little info about what you're looking for (click "Apply now" - it's only 3.5 questions). We schedule a time to chat. I send you further details relevant to what you need.

"Admin stuff" happens ...

... and then, voilà! We meet for an hour(ish) on Zoom at the frequency you choose, to get you moving toward your objectives.

I offer coaching with a splash of mentoring.

What is coaching??

Coaching is a creative partnership where I help catalyze your thinking, which brings you insight and clarity. From this "cleaner" place, you're ready to articulate the direction you want to go and take effective action(s).

I like to call it "going excavating," because we're digging around, uncovering layers, and sifting through tangled thoughts. We often don't see clearly under the surface of our routines and habitual responses. I help you sift through the dust and debris to uncover what's already within you ... whether that's a fully formed answer or the creative spark that leads to a new idea.

It's also a very safe space. I'm a neutral third party who's not "attached" to your situation or the direction you choose. This can make it easier to explore without limitations.

The best way to understand coaching is to experience it! That's why I offer introductory sessions at no charge.

What's coaching used for?

Coaching helps you move forward or create change. Think of the word stagecoach; it's a vehicle that transports you from one place to another.

Coaching is commonly used to help you

  • make decisions that feel unclear,
  • answer questions you're ruminating on,
  • create new habits,
  • engage in new challenges,
  • work through obstacles,
  • maintain momentum.

For those in international transition, it's particularly helpful to provide an anchor during chaotic periods.

"This has been an unexpected gift."
- F. (1:1 coaching client)

A splash of mentoring...

You'd dearly love to glean wisdom from others who've walked a similar path? I hear you.

At times it may be appropriate for me to "take off my coaching hat" and converse as a fellow expat who's been there and learned a few things along the way. While pure coaching is strictly focused on your agenda and your discovery process, with mentoring I'll share collective wisdom from my own experience and what I've seen & heard from others. My approach is to add perspective and options.

What's my investment?

I have a few options, and we should have a short chat to talk about what you're looking for and find the best fit. In brief, I currently offer

  • 2-month package - $497 (1-1 support for two months; 4-6 sessions plus support as needed in between)
  • 6-month package - $1297 (me by your side for an entire half-year ... enough to straddle both sides of an international move; 12-16 sessions plus support as needed in between)
  • Combo package - $1097 (6 sessions with me plus ongoing access to a wealth of just-in-time support) More Info

We can meet weekly, every 2 weeks, or a frequency that works best for you.

In all cases you'll have access to me if needed in between our coaching sessions; regular Q&A "Live" sessions; and community & encouragement in my Facebook group.

For longer packages we'll work collaboratively to establish your desired outcomes, and you'll have a progress guide updated after each session.

For all the details, go ahead and hit "Apply now." (It's quick & doesn't commit you to anything, just lets me know to send you more info.)

What makes you qualified to help me?

My life experience.

  • I've been a non-teaching spouse in the international schools world for 13 years, going between life "inside" the school to the parent community "outside" the school, and moving from a teacher's spouse to an administrator's spouse (a wild ride, for sure!).
  • I'm currently preparing for a "season" of unknown length in our home country. They say repatriation is the hardest move of all, so, yeah... I'm soaking in all of that too.
  • I've given birth in 3 different countries, and have kids spanning Early Years to high school, with university looming just around the corner.

My training.

  • I've completed Core Coaching Skills Training from Zovak Consulting, which qualifies as International Coach Federation (ICF) 60 hours Core Competency Training. While I am still working toward the ICF Credential, my trainer asserts that my skill is well beyond the first level of credentialing (in case that helps).
  • I'm a licensed facilitator of Adapt & Succeed Abroad, the only on-demand just-in-time program that supports all stages of rotational expat life.
  • As a member of Expat Coach Coalition I receive regular support and professional development, such as training on the Intercultural Pendulum, a new metaphor for intercultural competence development.
  • Informal training from Ulrika Ernvik on working with groups of families and groups of students (now published in her book Third Culture Kids A Gift To Care For).
  • SafetyStories training from Ulrika Ernvik on her method to process trauma without being re-traumatized (upcoming Spring 2022).
  • Accredited teacher trainings by Mindful Creative Muse on using Mindful Art for Kids and using Mindful Art and Meditation (in progress Winter-Spring 2022).
  • I've done extensive reading on topics related to transition, such as Doug Ota's Safe Passage How mobility affects people & what international schools should do about it.
  • As a volunteer over the past two decades (with La Leche League and National Alliance on Mental Illness) I've been trained and have practiced working with groups & individuals on delicate topics, and exploring options without giving advice.

My coaching experience.

So far I've worked with people on things like:

  • considering whether to renew a job contract or move on
  • finding their feet again after a very stressful period
  • figuring out, What do I want to focus on during this season of my life?
  • taking stock in midlife and shifting their life trajectory
  • tackling projects that seemed insurmountable

and so much more.

I absolutely LOVE coaching. It's truly my favorite way to spend an hour. I look forward to spending an hour with YOU!

Why do I need to "apply"?

For professional and legal reasons, before we work together I need to send you an agreement to sign. To prepare that agreement I need a little more info from you.
